Itinerary:
Day One:
After a freshly cooked breakfast at the hot springs we will head out on our jungle adventure, following a stream until we reach our riverside rehabilitation area where we can partake in some tree-planting as part of our conservation work. We will then continue until we reach a beautiful waterfall staircase where we can stop and refresh.

After our break we will head deeper into the jungle where we will trek through areas known for wildlife activity. We will be looking for Sumatran Orangutans, Gibbons, Silver Monkeys and Thomas Leaf Monkeys. This is also a great area for spotting swallows, reptiles, insects and other bird and mammal life. If we are lucky we may also see evidence of Sun Bears, or one of the few Sumatran Tigers left in the wild. We will stop in this area of the jungle to have lunch.

We will continue on our jungle adventure until we reach Goa Terang (‘Bright Cave’) where we will spend the night. This is a great spot to do shorter treks through the jungle, with bat caves and secluded swimming spots not far from our campsite. We can spend the afternoon exploring or learning about traditional Indonesian jungle cooking.

Fall asleep enjoying the incredible experience of camping in a candle-lit cave looking out over the jungle.

Day Two:
Wake up to the sounds of the jungle and enjoy a freshly cooked breakfast and a warm cup of tea or coffee. Today we will continue our trek, heading to another incredible cave formation called Goa Gelap '(‘Dark Cave’) and Elephant Rock. These caves and rock formations are tucked amongst the trees and seldom visited by tourists.

Here we will also look for and learn about medicinal plants and their properties that can be used for lots of different things. We will also enjoy a lunch together here where we can sit and watch the trees for wildlife activity.

This afternoon we will also have time to trek through some more of the incredible cave systems that are common in this area of the jungle. They can provide great places to look for tiger footprints, reptiles, bats and other animals that use them for shelter.

From here we have the option to:

  • Spend a second night in the jungle cave

  • Move to our jungle canopy lookout and restoration area to camp

  • Head down to the riverbank to spend two nights on the river’s edge.

Camping at the restoration area can be an incredible way to enjoy the panoramic views overlooking Gunung Leuser National Park as the sun sets behind the hills. This area is frequented by Hornbills and Gibbons, and is a great place to sleep out under the stars. (alternatively we can camp here on the first night)

Camping on the riverbank is perfect for those who love to swim, fish or enjoy the sound of the water. The river is a great place to spot wildlife that come to the river to drink, and is also commonly visited by River Otters and Hornbills.

Day Three:

Today is our day to go on an adventure. We will spend the day trekking through virtually untouched jungle, where tourists rarely get the chance to visit. We will take fresh fruit, lunch, tea and coffee and set off for a day that is sure to be full of fun and adventure.

We can spend the day searching for the perfect swimming spot, wildlife observation area, or trek as deep into the jungle as you would like to explore! This gives you the chance to get the most out of your time with us in Northern Sumatra.

Day Four:

Wake up to a freshly cooked breakfast and get ready for your last day of jungle adventuring. Watch the skies for Hornbills as these magnificent birds often pass over in the mornings.

Today we will trek through a beautiful area of the jungle that is known for its stunning wild orchids. Trekking through some other areas of the jungle, we will have the opportunity to enjoy the unique diversity of plants and animals that live here.

This afternoon we will make our way to the incredible Teroh-Teroh waterfall where we can cool off in the crystal clear water and enjoy a natural waterfall slide before heading back to the hot springs.

We will aim to return late afternoon so we can spend the evening soaking our muscles in the hot springs and watching the sun set over the jungle.

Note: This trek includes a contribution to our conservation efforts that aim to protect this incredible National Park.
