Packing List

Clothing:

  • Long pants, long sleeve shirt and long socks for trek (natural colours are ideal)

  • An extra pair of socks (it is helpful to keep a dry pair for at night)

  • Long sleeve, comfortable clothes for relaxing at camp and sleeping

  • A light sweater for the evenings as it can drop in temperature

  • Swimsuit and swimming clothes (a loose shirt/shorts if you are wearing a bikini/speedos)

  • Hat

  • A sarong is always a good idea - we can lend you a traditional sarong if you would like, or you can purchase one and take it home as a souvenir!

    Shoes/Footwear:

  • Comfortable footwear such as light sports shoes (specialised hiking boots are not necessary unless you want to use them)

  • Flip flops/sandals for wearing around camp and for any rivier crossings where your feet may get wet

    Toiletries and other items:

  • Sunscreen (we recommend using reef-safe sunscreen that will not harm the rivers)

  • Natural soaps, shampoos and conditioners (we encourage our guests to use natural soaps that minimise your impact on the waterways)

  • Mosquito Repellant

  • Reusable Drink Bottle (we do not sell bottled water at our guesthouse but will refill your drink bottle for free)

  • Sunglasses

  • Small backpack (a small waterproof bag is also useful to keep your belongings dry while trekking)

  • Sleeping Bag Liner, Sarong or Light Blanket

  • Flashlight (Head torches are ideal)

  • Camera (Please bring backup batteries if you have them)

Medication and Health

Medication:

  • Please speak to your doctor prior to coming and bring any medications you require with you

  • Consult with your doctor about any vaccinations that you require for your trip

  • Medications and First Aid Supplies (Band-aids, pain medication, antiseptic wipes and any joint or knee supports you usually use when trekking)

    Health:

  • Please make sure you consult with your doctor about any medical conditions before you arrive for your trek - please consult your doctor about your fitness as this is the responsibility of each guest.

  • Ensure that you have let us know about any medical conditions before your trek so that we can plan accordingly (e.g. diseases, allergies, high blood pressure, heart conditions, joint concerns, operations, pregnancy)

    Insurance:

  • Please ensure that you have comprehensive travel insurance that covers activities such as trekking and tubing in the river. Insurance is the responsibility of the individual traveller and should cover injury, accidents or loss of belongings.

Money and Finances

Money:

  • Please ensure that you bring sufficient cash for you while you are in the jungle as there are no ATMs available (the closest is over over an hour away)

  • Let our driver know if you require an ATM stop on your way to Simolap so that you have sufficient cash with you.

Community

What can I bring:

  • If you would like to bring anything for the community (please do not feel obliged) we ask that you do not bring anything that is plastic or easily broken as we have limited waste disposal available.

  • The best things to bring is food to share together or childrens books for our nature club with the kids in our community

Note: We are quite remote and do not have access to city waste disposal. We ask that you please reduce the plastic or other disposable items that you bring to our community (e.g. unwrap anything new so that there is no plastic still on it) or if you need to bring anything disposable that you take it out with you when you leave. This helps us to reduce the impact that we have on the environment and keep our jungle free of waste.
